After the Voyager probe left Uranus and headed to Neptune people thought that Neptune would just be a repeat of Uranus. Boy where they wrong. Neptune has a pretty dynamic atmosphere. Much like Jupiter, Neptune has storms, large and small raging in it's cloud tops. Neptune's surface activity results from an internal source of energy. We do not know why Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune have such additional energy while Uranus does not. Voyager 2 was able to pass very close to Neptune's largest moon Triton and the images it sent back where surprising. The southern polar cap is pinkish, and plums of dust where seen erupting. Hopefully one day we'll send another probe out to Neptune and learn more about it and it's moons. Since Neptune has no surface you'll have to camp out on Triton, just watch out for falling dust.
